Lately, more and more celebrities come out, and the last one to do it is a guy you’ve seen in Arrow and Teen Wolf, 27-year-old Colton Haynes. Speculations about him being gay started after someone posted a message on Tumblr saying that they knew about his “secret gay past.” The actor replied “Was it really a secret?”
At the time, Haynes did not made any further comments, but the latest interview for Entertainment Weekly confirms that he is finally out. Haynes talked about the post saying he had a “secret gay past.”
“It was a complete shock. I wasn’t ready to be back in the headlines,” says Haynes, who is in fact gay but has never publicly addressed his sexuality (and, like many others on his path, took advice early in his career to subdue it).
“I should have made a comment or a statement, but I just wasn’t ready. I didn’t feel like I owed anyone anything. I think in due time, everyone has to make those decisions when they’re ready, and I wasn’t yet. But I felt like I was letting people down by not coming forward with the rest of what I should have said.” (Excerpt from the interview)
The actor has also talked about the struggle of being a famous name in Hollywood and pressured to maintain a certain image for the public.
“People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world,” he said referring to his struggle.
Haynes suffered from clinical anxiety and he hopes that this year will turn better for him, as he finally took his secret off the chest.
On 2016’s New Years Eve Colton Haynes Tweeted: “No fear this year. #Cheers2016.”
