gay dads

The couple made the announcement in an adorable festive-themed video.

Kieron Richardson has announced that he is set to become a father for the first time.

The Hollyoaks star, who plays Ste Hay in the Channel 4 soap, took to Instagram yesterday (December 12) to reveal that he is expecting twins next year with husband Carl Hyland, who he married in April 2015.

kieronRichardson, who has previously spoken of the couple’s intention to become dads through surrogacy, shared an adorable festive video showing two ‘Baby on board’ signs hanging on a Christmas tree, before he and Hyland open a present to reveal a sign which reads ‘Twins coming 2017’.

“Merry Christmas to us thanks to the British surrogacy centre”, the 30-year-old wrote alongside the clip.

The happy news comes just weeks after Richardson revealed that he and Hyland had been struggling to conceive a baby through IVF after four failed attempts.

“We were hoping to have a baby this year,” he said at the time.

“Unfortunately, like anyone who is trying for a baby through IVF – whether they are gay couples or not – it is a lottery.”

Richardson came out publicly back in 2010 on This Morning, at the same time it was announced that his onscreen counterpart would also be coming out. He announced his engagement to long-term partner Hyland in 2014 before marrying in a star-studded ceremony at Buxton Dome in the Peak District.
