The U.S. Soccer Women’s National Team defeated the Netherlands in the final round of the Women’s World Cup yesterday, team captain Megan Rapinoe said that their victory had one key ingredient: gays. “Go gays,” she told Yahoo! Sports. “You can’t win a championship without gays on your team. It’s never been done before. Ever. That’s science right there.” The team’s win secured the U.S.’s fourth Women’s World Cup win since the tournament was started in 1991. Rapinoe is gay, and the official...

Donald Trump might be weaseling out of his promise of a White House invitation after the U.S. won the Women’s World Cup, after Fox News broadcast people celebrating the victory by chanting “Fuck Trump!” Days ago, captain of the U.S. Women’s National Team Megan Rapinoe got into a war of words with Trump. She said in an interview that, if she’s invited to the White House, she definitely wouldn’t go. “I’m not going to the f–king White House,” she responded. “We’re not...

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo renamed four squares and streets in Paris’ gay neighborhood of Marais to honor four LGBTQ icons. Honored by the city this year is Harvey Milk, Pierre Seel, Ovida Delect, and Gilbert Baker. The four new additions add to more than 40 LGBTQ people so honored since Hidalgo was elected in 2014. Baker’s plaque also resides in yet another location renamed this year: the newly-christened Stonewall Riots Square.  “With Wednesday’s inauguration of Harvey Milk square, Ovida Delect square, Stonewall...

Donald Trump is not taking soccer star Megan Rapinoe’s refusal to visit the White House well. Earlier this week, Rapinoe told Eight by Eight magazine that she would not visit the White House if the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team won the Women’s World Cup, which is being held now in France. “I’m not going to the f–king White House,” she said. She also said that she wouldn’t be invited anyway. “No f–kin’ way will we be invited to the White House,” Rapinoe...

No one ever accused Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being a liberal. After all, this is the man who has assiduously courted President Trump, going so far as to name a (probably imaginary) development in Israeli-occupied territory “Trump Heights.”  But there’s one big difference between the two: When it came time for Netanyahu to appoint a new Minister of Justice, he turned to Amir Ohana, a political ally with impeccably conservative credentials. Ohana is also gay. Israel’s Minister of Justice,...
Pierre-Palmade

In a move that proves internalized homophobia exists even in gay-loving France, actor and comedian Pierre Palmade has ignited controversy for saying there’s a difference between a gay man and a homosexual man. Palmade made the comments on the talk show We’re Not Asleep on May 4. During the broadcast, Palmade insisted that gay people flaunt their sexuality for no reason, whereas homosexuals don’t stand out from heterosexuals. For the record, Palmade came out as gay in 2008. “This is my...

With the United States showing no signs of doing the same, France has started taking in gay refugees from Chechnya. “The first gay Chechen refugee arrived on French land,” Joël Deumier, president of French LGBT rights organization SOS Homophobie, said on FranceInfo today. “France has started to welcome Chechen refugees. This is going to continue.” Deumier also shared that SOS Homophobie helped with the refugee’s application and provided testimony indicating he was oppressed because of his sexual orientation.
