Though we could (and should) be proud of our sexualities and gender identities year-round, another pride month has come and gone. And all over the Internet, companies and brands are replacing their rainbow-hued logos with their usual, less flamboyant emblems. Should we be irritated that companies only show off LGBTQ pride for 30 days of the year? On Reddit user doesn’t think so. “Please stop complaining about companies taking down their pride logos after June 30,” that user wrote. “It’s so...

This last Friday during Pride weekend in Barcelona, Spain, a man at a McDonald’s threatened to “beat the gay out of” a gay man for wearing “disrespectful” cut-off jean shorts and a tight neon yellow tank top in public. A bystander took video of their encounter and though police soon intervened the queer man declined to press charges. In the video (which has since been viewed over 4.2 million times), a security officer inside the fast-food restaurant speaks to a...

Screenshot via Twitter @ABCNewsLive A US Army specialist has come out on national TV. This past weekend was the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. To honor Stonewall and the legacy of Pride that followed it, the World Pride Parade in New York City was visited by around 3 million people. And one of those three million was Brion Houston. ABC News was in Manhattan to record the parade and all of its participants/watchers. During the day, they caught up with Houston...

LGBT Elders experience their first Pride parade thanks to the Dublin Bus / Screenshot via YouTube @Dublin Bus Get ready for your daily dose of adorableness. It seems that with the 50th anniversary of pride, there’s been a lot of conversation about the history of gay rights and Pride. In addition, there’s a need to recognize where those two things are today. But how about merging the two, past and present? That’s what a new YouTube video by the Dublin Bus...

A chance meeting during World Pride last week became a life-changing moment for Army Specialist Brion Houston when he came out on live television. The Vermont resident stopped by to chat with ABC News during the historic celebration and gave the network an unexpected exclusive as he referred to the event as “My first WorldPride and first Pride ever.” The interviewer then asked if he was out in the military. Houtson’s response: “I’m not yet, but now I am, so congrats.” He...

June marks pride month, but it’s also the halfway point of the year. As such, it’s the perfect time to look back at the past six months to take a look at some of the people who have come out of the closet. As society accepts the evolving definitions of sexuality and gender, the process of coming out has become more complex. Stars like Sam Smith and Jonathan Van Ness – celebs we already knew as gay – are now publicly...

“Sisters are doing it for themselves,” Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin sang on their 1985 top-twenty single, in support and recognition of liberated women everywhere. In 2019, the LGBTQ community could use a similar DIY hit anthem of its own. But even if Janelle Monáe and Sam Smith were to serve it up next week, this much still would be abundantly true: We can’t do it all for ourselves. Collaboration is essential to the sweet smell of success. That doesn’t...

Erica Snyder, 21, is a visual storyteller who spent March photographing patrons at Stonewall Inn to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the riots that helped trigger the equality movement. Here Erica narrates her photos for Queerty. You probably heard about Madonna and Taylor Swift giving special performances at the bar to celebrate WorldPride. But the reality is that for the last 52 years (yes, it was founded two years before the riots took place), it’s been home to an assortment of...

A new poll found that LGBTQ are actually pretty fine with just about anyone showing up at Pride, despite controversies around police officers, kinksters, families, and corporations. A poll of 801 LGBTQ people conducted by Whitman Insight Strategies and Buzzfeed News found that the community overwhelmingly supports just about everyone going to Pride. When asked about police officers marching in Pride parades, only 10% of people said “No.” 79% said “yes” and the rest didn’t give an answer. Corporations have also been...

from instagram.com/pride/WorldPride in New York City will see crowds that could swell into the millions during the parade and closing ceremonies on June 30. But celebrations have been flourishing throughout the “pride month” of June with festivals big and small, and celebrants arrived wearing lots of rainbow colors and pride pink. Dressing up in bright outfits is one of the most fun parts of celebrating the anniversary of Stonewall each year, and there have been some people who took...

A couple of queer guys scared off a Pride protestor by making out in front of him. Twitter user Bi Nguyen posted a video of a Christian conservative protestor this past weekend at Twin Cities Pride in Minneapolis. The protestor is wearing an orange sweater with the words “REPENTANCE” and “JESUS” on it and is carrying a long-winded sign with the headline “GOD HATES PRIDE.” Nguyen can be heard telling another boy “Daddy’s coming” before going in for a kiss, right in...

Condor Airlines, the German-based leisure fleet that connects its home hub of Frankfurt with international capitals, doesn’t just fly to New Orleans regularly. This year it decided to show its commitment and (connecting flights) to The Big Easy by sponsoring a float in New Orleans Pride, becoming the first airline to ever do so. In case you missed the parade, here a few highlights… The fun started in Frankfurt with an all-female cockpit crew (hello, why didn’t we think of...
