Gemma Collins has opened up about her mum being rushed to hospital after she "stopped breathing".The ex-TOWIE star was left shocked when her mum Joan, 80, suffered a health scare last month.

Gemma, 43, had to call an ambulance when Joan stopped breathing shortly after a family meal. At the hospital, Gemma was told her mum 'could die' in a terrifying moment. "I've had a lot of stress the last couple of weeks," she told The Sun. "My mum was suddenly taken into hospital and I was told she could die. They would not resuscitate her if she went into cardiac arrest." "So imagine that, you know, I'm in the hospital having been out for dinner the day before, and then the next day I'm like, 'wow', so that was a massive shock," the TV personality added.

Gemma first spoke out about Joan's health scare in a social media post, saying she'd had the "shock of her life" after the 80 year old took a bad turn.

She told her fans: "So last week I had the shock of my life when my mum stopped breathing. I called an ambulance and was told to prepare for the worst and would I like resuscitate her." Hours earlier, Gemma had taken to social media to share that her mum is "really ill at the minute." Gemma looked visibly upset as she explained: "My mum is really ill at the minute, she's in intensive care. "It's been a hell of a time and you know, I'm really happy, and well not that happy, because my mum's in intensive care, but she is on the mend, thank God." Thankfully, the star has said that her mum is "stable now" but admitted the whole experience had made her look at life differently. The former TOWIE star added: "It's been extremely tough but she's stable and hopefully she will be much better soon.
