Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Good Grief. From a grieving Dan Levy, to his immutable friendship with Ruth Negga and Himesh Patel, it is an emotionally turbulent one.
Opening with Marc (Levy) recounting the loss of his husband Oliver (Luke Evans) and reeling over the effects of grief to a lawyer (Celie Imrie).
The sombre and melancholy mood of the trailer is interrupted when Marc reveals to his friends, “Oliver met someone else”.
As the trailer progresses the true extent of the complexities are Marc’s relationship with Oliver and processing grief is made clear.
“My husband died one year ago today. Such a meticulous person he left behind one hell of a mess,” Marc can be heard saying in what appears to be a speech.
The Netflix film, which is due for release on 5 January, will follow “Marc who was content living in the shadow of his larger-than-life husband, Oliver.
“But when Oliver unexpectedly dies, Marc’s world shatters, sending him and his two best friends, Sophie (Ruth Negga) and Thomas (Himesh Patel), on a soul-searching trip to Paris that reveals some hard truths they each needed to face,” the official synopsis reveals.
The Schitt’s Creek star not only wrote and stars in the film, but takes on his first directorial duties for it.
“In the early days when that idea was coming to fruition, it was originally conceived potentially as a romantic comedy, and then whatever press got out set what is now a very strange description of the movie,” he explained to Entertainments weekly, justifying any potential discrepancies in the plot.
The first look of the heartfelt drama was shared by the digital magazine and features a carousel of images, including a kiss and undeniable connection between husbands Marc and Oliver.
