‘LGBTQ+ Heroes’ to speak at Capital Pride event

The Capital Pride Alliance, the group that organizes most D.C. LGBTQ Pride events, announced it is inviting the community to attend a Jan.

7 live and virtual “Evening With LGBTQ+ Heroes” who were recipients of the group’s annual Heroes Award. The announcement says the event was being held in partnership with Team Rayceen Productions, a local LGBTQ event organizing group, and the 50th anniversary subcommittee of World Pride 2025, which will take place in D.C. “The Capital Pride Alliance is celebrating 50 years of Pride in our nation’s capital,” the announcement says. “As part of that celebration, we want to highlight some of the organizers in our community who have received an honor from our organization.” The announcement adds, “Please join us for a monthly virtual live event featuring some of these heroes who will share their history and thoughts on what pride means.” The event will take place at 6:45 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Human Rights Campaign headquarters at 1640 Rhode Island Ave., N.W. The announcement says the event can be accessed virtually at capitalpride.org/evening-heroes/ The Capital Pride Heroes scheduled to speak at the event include: • Bishop Allyson Abrams, Pastor/Bishop & Spiritual Leader of D.C.’s Empowerment Liberation Cathedral; • Ed Bailey, nightclub and bar owner and operator of the D.C.

bars Number Nine and Trade; • Ben DeGuzman, director of the D.C. Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs • Kenya Hutton, president and CEO of the D.C.
