When Gigger first put on a pair of roller skates, he didn’t see anybody else who looks like him.
So he went out and tried to change that. The competition pits the best roller-skating crews in the country against one another, and the competition is fierce.With the finale airing Thursday night, Gigger has made his mark.
He derives his inspiration for “Haus of Sk8” from ballroom culture, where Black and Latino queer people have felt free to express themselves for a century. When Gigger is on a pair of roller skates, he feels similarly uninhibited. Laron Gigger is always himself when he’s on skates, and we love him for it!“I felt like it was kind of perfect, create a ‘Haus of Sk8,'” he said.
“That’s never been a thing. Despite a tornado warning, more than 400 people attended.
