With less than a week since its release, Flowers has already become one of the biggest successes of Miley Cyrus’ career.
The Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson-produced self-empowerment anthem has made history as the fastest song to surpass 100 million streams on Spotify and is also the first song to achieve this in under a week.
It is also expected to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart, making it her first single to do so in both territories in ten years.
Flowers recently received the seal of approval from I Will Survive singer Gloria Gaynor, who said the song “carries the torch of empowerment and encourages everyone to find strength in themselves to persevere and thrive”.
The first single from her upcoming eighth album Endless Summer Vacation, Flowers sees Miley assert self her independence as she sings to a former lover, “I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand,” and “I can love me better than you can.”
The Jacob Bixenman-directed video follows Miley as she practices various acts of self-care such as dancing, workout out and swimming.
Miley’s new album will be the star at her “strongest and most confident she’s ever been,” with the music and imagery of Endless Summer Vacation “serving as a reflection of the strength she’s found in focusing on both her physical and mental well-being.”
Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Kid Harpoon, Greg Kurstin, Mike WiLL Made-It and Tyler Johnson, the album is described as Miley’s “love letter to LA”.
Endless Summer Vacation is due for release on 10 March and marks Miley’s first album since 2020’s Plastic Hearts, which received critical acclaim and spawned singles such as Midnight Sky and the Dua Lipa-assisted Prisoner.
