Larry M. Smith Jr. turned his pain into purpose on his path to the Native Son 101 list



Smith Jr. has powered through the obstacles in his path to achieve the goals he has set for himself and inspire so many others along the way—including graduating from North Carolina A&T in 2024 as valedictorian and being accepted into the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

While tirelessly pursuing his aspirations, Smith Jr.

has remained an outspoken voice within the Black queer community, with Smith Jr. proudly celebrating his queer identity and the importance of Black queer men’s voices in spaces like foster care advocacy and education.
