He bought the Miss Universe brand of beauty pageants in 1996, and sold it in 2015. He produced and hosted The Apprentice, a reality television series, from 2003 to 2015. When Barrie Drewitt and his partner Tony were named as parents on their twins' birth certificates, they made history as the first same-sex couple to appear on the official documents.

According to The Sun, the pair had taken on Saffron and her brother Aspen after using an egg donor and a surrogate in California in 1999 and made headlines as the UK's first gay dads.

Barrie is the biological father of one child, while Tony is the biological father of the other. After the twins were born, the embryo used to create Aspen, which had been split in two in the lab, was implanted into another surrogate, Donna.
