Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter has, yet again, shut down transphobic trolls on social media. On Wednesday (6 July), Carter took to Twitter urging Americans to refocus their concerns in the fight for women’s rights. “I cannot think of anything that helps women’s rights less than pinning the blame on trans women,” the actress wrote. “They face so much violence and scrutiny as is.
Leave them alone and focus on the real war on women. It’s happening in the courts and legislatures around this country.” Carter’s tweet references the Supreme Court ruling to overturn Roe v.
Wade in June, eliminating the federal right to an abortion. Carter also shared her message on Instagram adding, “Trans people didn’t get us into this mess, outdated beliefs did!” The actresses’ comments form part of a wider discussion on women’s rights amongst celebrity women.
On Monday (4 July), Bette Midler came under fire after critics accused her of sharing transphobic messaging in her tweets. This isn’t the first time Carter has shown her support for the LGBTQ+ community.
