Former BBC Radio 1 presenter Nick Grimshaw was the victim of a robbery while on holiday in Ibiza, Spain.
Earlier this month, the beloved radio DJ travelled to the seaside destination to celebrate his 40th birthday, renting out a villa with family and friends – including his fiancé Mesh Henry and his 81-year-old mother Eileen.
However, his birthday celebration reportedly took a terrifying turn when a gang raided their rental property.
According to The Independent, the unidentified robbers flooded the villa with sedative gas before entering in hazmat suits.
Fortunately, Nick and his loved ones were unharmed during the incident and are safely back in the UK.
In a statement to the news outlet, a source gave insight into the situation and revealed that other high-end villas in Ibiza have faced similar attacks throughout the summer.
“Sadly, Nick’s villa was on the target list, simply due to it being known for being used by high net worth clients,” they explained.
“The gang would have had no idea who he was. Sadly, it’s a case of the wrong place at the wrong time, but it’s scary, to say the least.”
While Nick was upset over the terrifying ordeal, the source revealed that he wanted to keep it off social media.
“At the end of the day, it was meant to be a private, low-key break with his family,” they added.
The robbers’ identities have yet to be released. However, CCTV footage of the culprits has been handed over to authorities, per The Mirror.
As of this writing, Nick has not made an official statement addressing the incident.
Since 2007, the talented presenter – affectionately known as Grimmy by fans – has been a longstanding fixture within the UK radio scene, hosting a variety of shows on BBC Radio 1.
In June 2021, he announced his departure from the station after 14 years.
In a follow-up statement on social media, Nick said he’s “truly had the time“ of his life and that the role has been “everything I’d imagined and somehow even more”.
