Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman has shared some major tea about season three.
On 3 October, fans were finally treated to the third outing of the popular Netflix series.
Based on the hit webcomic, the new batch episodes follow Charlie (Joe Locke) as he tries to “tell Nick that he loves him,” while Nick (Kit Connor) “also has something important to say to Charlie”.
The synopsis adds: “As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realise that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges.”
Since its release, Heartstopper season three has received widespread critical acclaim, with praise aimed at Joe Locke’s performance of Charlie and Oseman’s writing – particularly the handling of Charlie’s eating disorder.
While we’re still waiting on an official season four renewal from Netflix, Oseman has kept fans busy by sharing new behind-the-scenes details about the latest entry.
During a recent Q&A session on Discord, the Radio Silence author revealed that a scene featuring Mr Ajay (Fisayo Akinade) discussing Charlie’s eating disorder with Mr Farouk (Nima Taleghani) was cut from the final release.
“There’s actually a deleted scene where Mr Ajay and Mr Farouk have a very brief conversation in the car about whether Mr Ajay should alert Charlie’s parents about what Charlie has said,” she explained, referencing Mr Ajay and Charlie’s lunch conversation in episode three.
“Mr A is very worried, but Mr F thinks that telling his parents might make things worse for Charlie. They decide not to tell Charlie’s parents, but it’s left unclear whether this is the right call or not… even I’m not sure! But at the very least, I expect Mr A will be more vigilant in looking out for Charlie after their conversation.”
It didn’t take long for fans to share their reactions to Oseman’s deleted scene tea on social media.
One person on Twitter/X wrote: “That scene should have stayed, imho there were a couple of scenes that could have gone to fit this one
