With Broad City in their rearview, Ilana Glazer is plotting their return to television. The Emmy winner recently revealed that they’re developing a series with nods to Sex and the City, which they said will focus on the “woman and gay guy friendship.” “I’m writing a show right now.
I’m doing a rewrite actually of this draft right now,” they said on the Dinner’s on Me podcast. “It’s like Sex and the City with two women and two gay guys. ‘Cause the woman and gay guy friendship is a big deal. “My first best friend is my brother, [who is a] gay guy.
All of my best friends growing up are gay boys. I want it to be them,” added Glazer. After launching the show as a web series from 2009 to 2011, Broad City caught the eye of executive producer Amy Poehler and landed a five-season run on Comedy Central from 2014 to 2019.
Broad City saw Glazer and Abbi Jacobson as fictional versions of themselves, best friends chasing their dreams and getting into shenanigans in New York City.
