Chris, the lead singer of French pop act Christine and the Queens, has shared an update on his journey with gender. In a three-minute video on TikTok, the star informed his followers in French that he has been living as a man “for a year now, a little more officially in my family and in my relationship.
It is a long process.” He subsequently updated his pronouns across all social media platforms to ‘he/him’. Chris’ new album, titled Redcar les adorables étoiles, will be released under the name ‘Christine and the Queens presents Redcar.’ Acknowledging the name change, Chris said in the video: “Redcar, like all my poetry and philosophy, is poetry and philosophy that helps me be successful.” The performer, who identifies as pansexual, initially informed his fans in 2021 that he uses all pronouns, although he later told The New York Times that his journey with gender “has always been tumultuous”. “It’s raging right now, as I’m just exploring what is beyond this.
A way to express it could be switching between they and she,” he explained at the time, before saying he wants to “tear down that system that made us label genders in such a strict way”.
Chris has been vocal throughout his career in regards to his sexuality and gender identity. While discussing his sexuality in a 2016 interview with the BBC, Chris explained that being pansexual means “that I can fall in love with someone regardless of their gender, regardless of how they define themselves”.
