Those signing up for the mass participation event at the upcoming London Marathon will be able to register as non-binary for the first time.

The move does not affect elite races, which will continue to operate under male and female categories and have their prizes divided up as such.

This year’s event saw more than 350,000 people apply to run, with 2021’s seeing 80,000 getting involved either virtually or in person.
