Breaking News By DANA PICCOLIEditor, News Is Out Just a day after Speaker of the House Mike Johnson told reporters, “I believe it’s a command we treat all persons with dignity and respect,” he has officially banned elected transgender Congresswoman Sarah McBride and any trans staff from using a bathroom that doesn’t correspond with their assigned gender at birth. “All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings—such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms—are reserved for individuals of that biological sex,” Johnson said in a statement. “It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol.
Women deserve women’s only spaces.” This announcement comes after Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) proposed a resolution on Monday that would bar transgender people from using a bathroom that align with their gender identity, and just over two weeks after the nation’s first transgender member of Congress, Sarah McBride of Delaware, was duly elected by her constituents in an overwhelming victory.
