On August 14, around 2000 people showed support for the LGBTQ+ community in a pride march by waving flags and wearing pride-themed clothing.
The Bucharest pride march has been an annual event running since 2004. Teodora Ion-Rotaru, executive director of the LGBTQ+ advocacy group ACCEPT Association told The Associated Press that Bucharest Pride “remains a protest that asks for the very basics.” However, Ion-Rotaru expressed the need for greater state protections as rights and security as the community still feel unsafe: “The march asks for protection from violence, protection from discrimination, protection from being fired for your sexual orientation or gender identity,” she told The Associated Press.
