George Perry Floyd Jr. (October 14, 1973 – May 25, 2020) was a black American man killed during an arrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after allegedly using counterfeit money to buy cigarettes. Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, knelt on his neck for nearly eight minutes as he lay handcuffed on the ground. After his death, protests against police violence toward black people quickly spread across the United States and internationally.

Baltimore group holds Black Trans Lives Matter rally, march

Baltimore Safe Haven, a nonprofit organization that provides food, shelter and other services for the area’s LGBTQ community, held a Black Trans Lives Matter protest rally and march on June 5.

The event was one of many held in Baltimore and nationally following the killing of George Floyd by then-Minneapolis police officers on May 25.

Murder charges were filed against them, including Derek Chauvin who faces an additional second-degree murder charge for kneeling on Floyd’s neck for close to nine
