WHEREAS, LGBTQ Pride is defined as the positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equal rights, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance; andWHEREAS, 51 years ago, on June 28, 1969, a courageous group of citizens rose up against harassment and mistreatment, setting in motion a chain of events that would become known as the Stonewall Riots and the birth of the modern LGBTQ.
