Cynthia Erivo has come out as bisexual, sharing that ‘nerves and fear’ previously prevented her from living as herself. The actress, 35, previously came out as queer, but has now opened up further about her sexuality thanks to accepting herself and developing a support system of ‘wonderful people.’Cynthia – who is set to play Elphaba in the big-screen version of Wicked – shared an inspirational message in honour of Pride, stating that LGBTQ+ people should be ‘commended for being brave’ rather than ‘chastised’ for being different. The award-winning star took part in a powerful British Vogue shoot for the publication’s Pride issue, posing on the cover alongside the likes of Cara Delevingne and Munroe Bergdorf.Speaking about the queer community in the touching interview, she told the magazine: ‘[LGBTQ+ people] still feel the need to be constantly justifying why we deserve to be treated as equal beings when really the only difference is that we love differently and we express ourselves differently.‘Rather than being chastised for that, we should be commended for being brave.

That’s the most important thing: giving people the space to show up fully as who they are.’Sharing the shoot on her Instagram page, Cynthia added: ‘Nerves and fear have gotten in the way of sharing all of who I am, and today with #Pride and with wonderful people beside me I’m sharing a little more.’She went on to thank editor in chief Edward Enniful for ‘giving me the space and loving on me,’ stating that the cover was a ‘dream come true.’‘Thank you @cynthiaerivo for trusting us with your story ❤️’, Edward commented in response. This isn’t the first time Cynthia has spoken publicly about her sexuality, previously chatting with Evening Standard about her.
