The 2022 Pride season is here, and for many of us that means the first opportunity in three years to march, mingle and celebrate in person. And while there’s no doubt some revelry is in (much deserved) order, the mood isn’t entirely cheerful.
Between a wave of legislation targeting transgender youth, a right-wing culture war stoking fears of the “gay agenda” and a Supreme Court that’s willing to toss out 50 years of progress, it’s clear the fight for equality is nowhere near over. With that in mind, it’s a good thing we’ll have the chance to mark Pride in person this year, to connect with old friends and new, and to show the world — and each other — the power we have when we stand shoulder to shoulder. It’s in that spirit that we introduce the 2022 Queerty Pride50, honoring the people we are particularly proud of this season. This year’s honorees constitute a diverse range of LGBTQers and their allies, but they have one major thing in common: not only have they achieved professional breakthroughs, but they’ve done it the right way.
