The National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals, or ANTRA, reported suicide rates for transgender Brazilians rose by a third in 2020 over last year.

Sixteen transgender people died by suicide within the first six months of 2020, reported the organization, which released its report in September, according to Reuters.The increased homicide and suicide rates come despite recent legal wins.
