Velma has officially been confirmed as a lesbian in the upcoming Trick or Treat Scooby Doo movie. Following Amazon Prime’s release of the newest film of the iconic childhood franchise on Tuesday, a clip of Velma’s first encounter with her crush, villain Coco Diablo, has gone viral.

Viewers see Velma googly-eyed and speechless after laying eyes on the character, confirming the long-term idea that she was a lesbian.

This doesn't come as a complete surprise to fans of the franchise as James Gunn, the writer of the early 2000s live-action Scooby-Doo movies, confirmed he originally wrote Velma as a lesbian before having to change it.

Gunn shared a tweet in 2020 saying that he had “tried” to make Velma a visible lesbian in the live-action movies, “but the studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous (the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel)”.
