A mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has left at least five people dead and a further 18 injured, according to police. “Numerous” 911 calls began flooding in from at 11:57pm on 19 November, mere minutes before Transgender Day of Remembrance began.

Colorado Springs Police Lt. Pamela Castro said police have located “one individual who we believe to be the suspect inside” of Club Q, where the incident took place. “At this point in time, the suspect is being treated, but is in custody,” she added, as reported by CNN.

No clarity has been given as to whether or not the suspect is being included in the count of those injured in the shooting. There has also been no discussion about a possible motive as of yet.

Castro added that she is expecting authorities, including the FBI, to be on the scene for “many, many hours to come.” Club Q said it was “devastated by the senseless attack on our community” in a heartfelt statement on social media. “We thank the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack,” the statement continued. This is a breaking story.
