Joe Biden was inaugurated the 46th president of the United States January 20 in a ceremony on the west steps of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., bringing to an end one of the most tumultuous administrations in the 243-year history of the republic.
Kamala Harris, who served as San Francisco's district attorney, California attorney general, and U.S. senator from the Golden State, was sworn into office shortly before Biden, making history as the first woman, the first Black American, and the first Asian American to serve as vice president. "Don't tell me things can't change," Biden said during his inaugural address regarding Harris' historic swearing-in.
