Avengers star Chris Evans praised Pixar for restoring Lightyear’s same-sex kiss in a new interview. On 17 June, the highly anticipated film is expected to debut in a majority of theatres worldwide.
The movie, which stars Evans as Buzz Lightyear, is set to explore the adventurous origin story of the beloved Space Ranger. The new film is also expected to feature an array of new characters, including Buzz’s openly queer best friend and commanding officer, Alisha Hawthorne (Uzo Aduba).
But what sets the project apart from other Disney films is the inclusion of Pixar’s first same-sex kiss. The brief moment, which was cut but later restored, is set to occur between Aduba’s character and her partner.
In an interview with Variety, Evans opened up about Pixar restoring the aforementioned kiss. “I mean, it’s great. As great as it is – and you know, I’ve been asked the question a few times – it’s nice, and it’s wonderful, it makes me happy,” he revealed.
