On Trans Day of Remembrance, think of everyone who died for being themselves – and those of us still at risk
treating the attack on me as a ‘hate crime’ but even though the police know who my attacker is and I have since pressed charges, nothing has been done about it.The attack on me was one of many: according to a recent BBC report, transphobic hate crimes have quadrupled in the past five years across the UK.This doesn’t even include the trans people who don’t feel safe enough to make a report, with LGBTQ+ domestic abuse charity Galop estimating only one in seven trans people feel comfortable enough to do so.This was not the only time I have been targeted. Last year, a man attacked me and my group of friends, pulling my hair and ripping out my extensions.
