Purple Hearts star Nicholas Galitzine has joined AMC and Sky’s forthcoming LGBTQ+ period drama Mary & George. According to Deadline, the young talent and Julianne Moore are set to star in the series as the titular characters – which is currently filming in the UK.
The limited eight-part series – which is based on a true story – is set to follow the influential Countess of Buckingham, Mary Villiers (Moore), who “moulded” her son George (Galitzine) to become the “powerful lover” of King James I. “Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become one of the richest, most titled and influential mother and sons England had ever seen,” the logline adds.
British playwright DC Moore is set to write the forthcoming drama, with Liza Marshall’s Hera Pictures and Sky Studios signing on to produce the project.
Acclaimed creative Oliver Hermanus has also been tapped as Mary and George’s lead director. As of this writing, information surrounding the casting of King James I has yet to be announced.
