LGBTQ refugees expressed feelings of validation with the publication of a first-of-its-kind report uncovering life for LGBTQ asylum seekers and refugees at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, one of the largest in the world.
The 34-page report, "The Challenges Facing LGBTQI+ Refugees in Kakuma Refugee Camp," published October 21, is packed with information despite limitations gathering and verifying reported incidents due to COVID-19 and homophobia at the refugee camp, according to the report.
The camp is located in the northwestern region of Kenya. The report found multiple issues facing LGBTQ asylum seekers and refugees at Kakuma and the neighboring Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement, validating LGBTQ refugee activists.
