part of the 20th annual New York Comedy Festival on Nov. 15, the hit show finds Lausch and Teague singing and dancing their way through bad trips, childhood trauma, and exorcising some demons of their own, all in the name of celebrating community and chosen family. But before they bring Gay Demonz back to the stage, we welcomed the comedic duo to the hot seat(s) or our rapid-fire Q&A series, Dishin’ It.
In our conversation Lausch and Teague open about the *ss-kicking ladies who made them want to kick *ss too, their childhood crushes that still linger to this day, and that time they braved a hungover Fire Island comedy show in broad daylight.A post shared by Zach & Drew (@zachanddrew)Is there a piece of media—whether a movie, TV series, book, album, theater, video game, etc…—that has played an important role in your understanding of queerness and the queer community?
Why does it stand out to you?DREW: Sailor Moon! Sailor Moon was my favorite show growing up as a kid and as soon as I started watching the Japanese dubbed version I was like… “Ok all of these women are gay for each other and they are beautiful and fighting evil at the same time.” I very much wanted to be a gorgeous blonde gay who fought for love when I grew up.
I also was madly in love with Tuxedo Mask. Sailor Moon never addressed the queer nature of the characters and instead they just were.
