In one of the final forums before the February 15 special primary election, the candidates running for the Assembly District 17 seat talked about how they would address the needs of small businesses.
The four candidates are gay former supervisor David Campos; District 6 Supervisor Matt Haney; former Obama administration official Bilal Mahmood; and City College of San Francisco Trustee Thea Selby.
The candidates are vying to replace former assemblymember David Chiu, who resigned last November to become San Francisco's city attorney.
If no candidate wins more than a majority, then the top two vote-getters will be in a runoff April 19. The February 3 forum was moderated by Manny Yekutiel, a gay man who owns the eponymous cafe and event space in the Mission and who serves on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency board.
