Three stellar performers have been nominated for the upcoming BRIT Awards Rising Star Award, including Gay Times Honours performer Cat Burns.
First up, Gay Times Honours winner Cat Burns has been nominated. Fresh after her stunning performance at the ceremony, where the platinum-selling singer won Rising Star in Music, she is super excited to be nominated for this award. “A BRITs Rising Star nomination was a major thing on my bucket list for me this year, so to have achieved that honestly means the world to me,” she shared.
The singer/songwriter came out in 2020, and has made inspirational music about her experiences as an LGBTQ+ Black woman. In an earlier interview with Gay Times, she emphasised why she centres her identity in her tunes: “If you’re a Black woman, I want you to feel heard and seen.
She continued, “We are vulnerable people who are capable of having lots of emotions. And, being a Black queer woman adds a layer to that.” The girl group FLO join Cat in the nominees.
