Harry Potter author has hit out at Kerry Kennedy, the president of Robert F Kennedy Human Rights organisation, after she said that she was ‘profoundly disappointed’ in Rowling for ‘creating a narrative that diminishes the identity of trans and nonbinary people’ and ‘undermining the validity and integrity of the entire transgender community’.In a statement, Kennedy – who awarded Rowling the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Award in December 2019 – addressed the author’s ‘deeply troubling transphobic tweets and statements’, referencing a series of tweets from Rowling, as well as an essay she wrote about sex and gender issues.Kennedy wrote: ‘From her own words, I take Rowling’s position to be that the sex one is assigned at birth.
