David Martindale says the players can decide amongst themselves who’s taking the next penalty as they search for spot-kick success.Skipper Nicky Devlin missed two penalties in Monday’s draw with Motherwell, making it five straight failures from the spot for the Lions.Devlin, who won a training competition to be the side’s designated taker, was the fifth player to try their luck from 12 yards this term.Jason Holt, Sean Kelly, Esmael Goncalves and Jack Fitzwater have all missed with Martindale admitting he’s now letting the players decide - with Devlin having the final say if there’s any uncertainty. He commented: “Nicky was brilliant when we had a competition.
He was unbelievable and I super-confident he would score.“We had a bit of a knock-out and the first five you could hit where you wanted then you had to tell the keeper where you were going with it.
He still scored and scored 10 out of 10.“Jack Fitzwater was second and he took one when Nicky was off the park at Hibs - and he misses!
So, I think it’s going to come down to a wee bit of confidence on the day. I’m a big believer in that.”He added: “I don’t like players fighting and grabbing the ball for the wrong reasons - because they want to get their data up or look good or get a goal.
