Gavin Christopher Newsom (born October 10, 1967) is an American politician and businessman who is the 40th governor of California, serving since January 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the 49th lieutenant governor of California from 2011 to 2019 and as the 42nd mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011.
Governor Gavin Newsom has named a queer judicial aide to a vacant seat on the Alameda County Superior Court. Kelli M. Evans will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Thomas C.
Rogers from the East Bay bench. Evans, 52, a Democrat, has been serving as Newsom's chief deputy legal affairs secretary since last year.
She initially was brought on as the governor's deputy legal affairs secretary for criminal justice when Newsom took his oath of office in 2019.
The Oakland resident had served as a special assistant to former state attorney general Xavier Becerra from 2017 to 2019. She had left her position as senior director for the administration of justice at the California State Bar to join Becerra's staff.
