Phil Schofield feared he'd be accused of 'publicity stunt' when he came out as gay

This Morning star Phillip Schofield has revealed he was terrified that people would think he only came out as gay for a "publicity stunt".

He came out in February last year in an interview with Holly Willoughby, after years of turmoil and a 27-year marriage to wife Stephanie Lowe, with whom he shares two daughters.

Speaking on the Life, Interrupted podcast with Simon Thomas about the interview, Phil said: "The date was decided because we didn't want it to be too close to the NTAs, we didn't want to look like it was a publicity thing. "And then I can remember saying, 'This is ridiculous, you know, this is the biggest thing I'm ever gonna do in my life. "How is this a publicity stunt, for what?'
