Andrzej Sebastian Duda (born 16 May 1972) is a Polish lawyer and politician who has served as president of Poland since 6 August 2015. Before becoming president, Andrzej Duda was a member of Polish Lower House (Sejm) from 2011 to 2014 and the European Parliament from 2014 to 2015.
Poland’s president has promised to ban LGBT+ teaching in schools and to ensure same-sex couples can’t adopt kids. It comes as President Andrzej Duda faces a tight race for re-election on 28 June.
Warsaw’s Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, an LGBT+ ally, has emerged as his leading opponent. Duda is formally an independent but, in practice, is the candidate for the current ruling Law and Justice Party (PiS).
