Gentleman Jack is almost over, and to remind you of why you were obsessed with this show, last seen in June 2019, the new trailer is here.Season 1, which is based on the real-life diaries of LGBTQ+ trailblazer and diarist Anne Lister, ended with Lister (a.k.a.
Gentleman Jack, played by Suranne Jones) and her lady love, Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle), being reunited and finally wed in a secret ceremony.
The new season picks up with the newlyweds beginning to set up home together in Shibden Hall. They intend to combine their homes and become a revolutionary power couple in the U.K.'s Yorkshire region, circa 1835.Needless to say, the locals have issues with both their romance and Lister’s unbridled ambition. “If I were a man — thank heaven and Providence that I’m not — would you even think to question my ambition?” Lister asks in the trailer. As the two refuse to keep their love low-profile, pressure mounts from those who want to see them apart, out of distaste for their same-sex union or out of fear about the combined power they wield — or Walker’s fortune and Lister’s wit, as one adversary puts it in the trailer.Back for season 2 alongside Jones and Rundle are Gemma Whelan as Marian Lister, Lydia Leonard as Mariana Lawton, Gemma Jones as Aunt Anne Lister, and Timothy West as Jeremy Lister.
The sophomore season will also introduce new characters, including Lister’s former flame Isabella “Tib” Norcliffe, played by Joanna Scanlan.Gentleman Jack season 2 premieres on HBO in April.
