According to the Pew Research Center, nearly half of the Asian population in the US (45%) is located in the West, with nearly 30% living in California alone.
Outside of the West, 24% of Asians in the US live in the South, while 19% live in the Northeast and 12% live in the Midwest. In fact, a majority of Asians in the US (55%) live in just five states: California (6.7 million), New York (1.9 million), Texas (1.6 million), New Jersey (958,000), and Washington (852,000).
To give these numbers some context, Asians make up 17% of the overall population in California, while they make up 11% of the overall population in New Jersey.
On the other hand, in Hawaii, Asians make up 57% of the overall population.Admittedly, as somebody who also grew up in New Jersey, I had no idea about the farm labor movement in the US or Filipino American labor leader, Philip Vera Cruz, until I moved to Los Angeles, where they observe (and close state offices and schools for) César Chávez Day.
