Tia Kofi and Priyanka have tapped into the holiday spirit with their brand-new cover of Britney Spears’ hit single My Only Wish (This Year).
Like the original track, the Drag Race stars deliver incredible vocals full of festive cheer and romantic optimism. However in terms of its sound, the two talented performers swapped out Spears’ bubblegum pop holiday production for a more electro-pop sound that will leave fans searching for the nearest dance floor.
In an exclusive interview with GAY TIMES, Tia and Priyanka spilt all the tea on their collaboration – which was first teased by parodying Trixie Mattel and Kim Chi’s fake Twitter argument. “It was camp to have a little feud on socials for a change,” Tia said. “Some people picked up on the fact it was a word for word the same fake argument Trixie Mattel and Kim Chi had when they launched their makeup pallet, so eagle-eyed fans already knew a collab was on the way!” When asked about how their collaboration came to be, Priyanka attributed their epic team-up to “perfect timing.” “I met Tia for the first time on that UK tour, and we really bonded.
She’s such a special go-with-the-flow kind of person that makes everyone feel special so teaming up for a holiday song was the perfect thing to do,” she explained. “Also, making My Only Wish was strategic because so many fans tweet us saying, ‘Ugh, I wish they would do a duet together.'” Lastly, the two queens gave insight into why they chose the unforgettable Britney track to cover – which many fans view as a “modern holiday classic.” “Well, I don’t know if you know this, but Tia and I are both fully realized Pop Stars, so we had to pay homage to the Queen of Pop on our cover.
