Long Way Up, an epic 11-part series chronicling the pair’s 13,000 mile motorcycle journey from the southernmost city in South America to sunny Southern California.In an episode debuting tonight, the two artist-adventurers make a detour to Santo Domingo Tehuantepec in Mexico.
There they meet with the Muxes, a group of indigenous Zapotec people assigned male at birth but who now identify and live as female.
The custom is somewhat unique to the local culture, and Muxes face generally less stigma and hostility than other members of Mexico’s LGBTQ+ community.The actor and filmmaker friends meet Donaiji, a Muxe artisan who is observed making a dress for a young girl.
