Rian Johnson, the director and writer of Knives Out and its upcoming sequel, has confirmed that Daniel Craig’s character is in fact queer.
The former James Bond actor plays Benoit Blanc, a detective who is hinted to have a male lover in the first film – though this was never explicitly confirmed on screen.
When asked whether or not Blanc identifies as queer a the London Film Festival, Johnson finally gave fans a definitive answer. “Yes, he obviously is,” he said, according to Entertainment Weekly.
There was also confirmation that the character’s partner will be shown in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – though the actor portraying him is being kept top secret until it hits cinemas. “There’s nobody in the world I can imagine in bringing me more joy for Benoit Blanc to be with,” Johnson said.
