Knives might be out, but so too is Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc. The detective has been revealed to be queer, according to Knives Out director Rian Johnson.During a press conference at the London Film Festival, Johnson responded to a question about a scene in the upcoming film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
According to the question, the scene has Blac having a male lover. The journalist asked if that means Blanc is queer, according to Entertainment Weekly.“Yes, he obviously is,” Johnson said.
EW confirmed Blanc’s queerness through representatives for Netflix and Johnson. The outlet notes that some expected the development from subtext from the last film, namely Blanc's accent, but that the new film is “making it pure text, baby.”The actor playing the live-in lover of Blanc’s is still a mystery though."There's nobody in the world I can imagine in bringing me more joy for Benoit Blanc to be with," Johnson said, according to EW."No spoilers [but] who wouldn't want to live with that person?” Craig added.Speaking with The Advocate when the first Knives Out film came out in 2019, the gay-bar-loving Craig said that he was thrilled to be playing Blanc, “This was a script that rang all my bells, I mean, anybody that’s read it.
It’s funny, it’s witty, it’s got a message threading through it.”Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery also stars Natasha Lyonne, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom, Jr., and Dave Bautista as various characters, while Hugh Grant, Yo-Yo Ma, and the late Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim are credited as playing themselves. The film opens in theaters on November 23 before dropping on Netflix on December 23.Watch the trailer below. .
