Netflix was criticised by fans for putting the new true-crime drama based on Jeffrey Dahmer in its LGBTQ+ section. Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was released on 21 September, and is a fictional-retelling of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s story.

The series follows Dahmer’s crimes between 1978 and 1991, including his arrest and subsequent trial that lead to the discovery of his heinous offences.

The Milwaukee serial killer brutally murdered 17 male victims in total. Most of them were queer men of colour. Dahmer was imprisoned in 1992, before being killed during his incarceration.

American Horror Story star Evan Peters takes on the role of the titular character. The streaming service decided to categorise the series as LGBTQ+, to the disgust of subscribers.
