Gregory Wayne Abbott (born November 13, 1957) is an American attorney who has served as the 48th governor of Texas since January 20, 2015. A member of the Republican Party, Abbott previously served as the 50th attorney general of Texas from 2002 to 2015. He is the third governor of any U.S. state to permanently use a wheelchair. He is also the first disabled governor in Texas history.

Don Huffines was a one-term state senator from Collin County who was defeated by Angela Paxton, wife of the attorney general.

Alan West was a congressman from Florida who moved to Texas to head the state Republican Party. But it’s Rick Perry who may give the governor the most trouble.

Rick Perry who’s running is a computer technician from Parker County. He has no political experience and, according to the Dallas Morning News, has made a few small contributions to some of the region’s most conservative candidates.
