New figures from the Office for National Statistics, released on May 27, found more people in the UK are identifying as lesbian, gay or bisexual than ever before.
Through analysing the results of the Annual Population Survey from 2018 to 2019, the report found that the proportion of the population (aged 16 years and over) who identify as straight decreased from 94.6% in 2018 to 93.7% in 2019.The total number of those who said they identify as LGB increased from 2.2% to 2.7%, with one-third of this group being between 16 and 24.
The proportion of people over 65 who identify as LGB also increased from 0.7% to 1.0%. In terms of gender, the proportion of men identifying as gay or bisexual rose by 0.4%, while the proportion of women identifying.
