The May 18, 1995 issue of the Bay Area Reporter featured a half-page ad on page 3 from the Indiana estate of Phil Causey, a San Francisco gay man who died of AIDS in 1991.
According to a news article in the May 11 issue, the ad was part of a legal settlement obtained by two local attorneys on behalf of Billy Howard Jones, who had charged Causey's brother, James, of blocking Causey's domestic partner Mark Wilson from being the beneficiary of Causey's estate and kicking him out of the apartment he was promised he could live in rent-free.Jones had begun dating Wilson after Causey's death and cared for him until Wilson died.
