On Tuesday, President Joe Biden announced that he intends to nominate Gigi Sohn to fill a vacant seat at the Federal Communications Commission.
If Sohn is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, she would be the first openly LGBTQ FCC commissioner. She is well qualified for the post, and is one of the nation's leading public advocates for open, affordable, and democratic communications networks, according to a White House news release.
For over 30 years, the release noted, Sohn has worked to defend and preserve the fundamental competition and innovation policies that have made broadband Internet access more ubiquitous, competitive, affordable, open, and protective of user privacy.
